CFD

CFD stands for Complement Factor D, also commonly known as adipsin. It is a serine protease that plays a crucial role in the alternative pathway of the complement system. By cleaving factor B when it is bound to C3b, CFD initiates the formation of the C3 convertase, thereby amplifying the complement activation cascade.
Dysregulation of CFD is associated with various diseases, such as age - related macular degeneration and certain kidney diseases. In terms of drug development, targeting CFD has emerged as a potential therapeutic strategy. Several candidates are under pre - clinical and clinical investigations to modulate its activity and treat related disorders.
