CLEC18A encodes the C-type lectin domain family 18 member A, a transmembrane protein with a conserved C-type lectin domain. It participates in innate immunity by recognizing glycosylated ligands on pathogens or altered host cells, triggering signaling cascades that regulate cytokine secretion and immune cell activation, supporting immune surveillance.
Aberrant CLEC18A expression links to inflammatory disorders and certain malignancies, where it may promote tumor invasion or immune evasion. Preclinical research is exploring CLEC18A as a therapeutic target, aiming to develop agents modulating its activity to enhance anti-tumor responses or mitigate inflammatory damage.
