DDX53

DEAD-box helicase 53 (DDX53) is a DEAD-box RNA helicase harboring the conserved Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp motif. It catalyzes ATP-dependent RNA duplex unwinding, supporting critical RNA metabolic events like pre-mRNA splicing and ribosome biogenesis—key steps in gene expression regulation. No widely accepted alternative aliases are reported for DDX53.
DDX53 is closely associated with prostate cancer: its overexpression in tumor tissues correlates with aggressive phenotypes and poor patient outcomes. It may modulate cell cycle progression and PI3K/Akt signaling to drive proliferation and suppress apoptosis. Preclinical research is investigating helicase inhibitors targeting DDX53 as potential anticancer therapies, though clinical development remains in early stages.
