DNM1L

DNM1L encodes the Dynamin-1-like protein, also commonly known as Drp1. This protein is a key regulator of mitochondrial fission. It oligomerizes on the outer mitochondrial membrane, constricts, and splits mitochondria. It is involved in the mitochondrial fission pathway, which is crucial for maintaining mitochondrial homeostasis.
Mutations in DNM1L are related to several diseases, including neurodegenerative disorders and developmental abnormalities. In drug development, targeting DNM1L is being explored as a potential therapeutic strategy. Some small - molecule inhibitors are under investigation to modulate mitochondrial fission for treating these associated diseases.
