FCN2

FCN2 encodes ficolin-2, a soluble pattern recognition receptor belonging to the ficolin family. Also known as L-ficolin, it recognizes pathogen-associated molecular patterns via its fibrinogen-like domain, activating the lectin complement pathway to initiate innate immune responses against bacteria, viruses, and fungi.
Dysregulation of FCN2 is linked to increased susceptibility to infectious diseases, including pneumonia and sepsis, as well as autoimmune disorders. Genetic variations in FCN2 affect protein levels and function, influencing disease risk. Currently, no FCN2-targeted drugs are approved, but research focuses on its role as a diagnostic biomarker and therapeutic target for immunomodulation.
