HNRNPM

Heterogeneous Nuclear Ribonucleoprotein M (HNRNPM), commonly aliased as HNRPM, is a core member of the heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein family involved in post-transcriptional gene regulation. It binds to pre-mRNA and mRNA via RNA-recognition motifs, modulating alternative splicing, transcript stability, and nucleocytoplasmic transport. HNRNPM interacts with spliceosomal complexes and signaling components (e.g., Wnt/β-catenin) to fine-tune programs governing cell proliferation, differentiation, and stress responses.
Aberrant HNRNPM expression contributes to breast, lung, and hematological cancers. Overexpression in breast cancer drives oncogenic splicing events enhancing invasion and therapy resistance, correlating with poor prognosis. While no targeted drugs are in clinical trials, preclinical studies explore small molecules inhibiting its RNA-binding activity or protein interactions, promising to correct dysregulated splicing and suppress tumor growth.
