HRH3, histamine receptor H3, alias histamine H3 receptor. It is a member of the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) family, and is mainly expressed on histaminergic neurons in the central nervous system, but also plays a role in peripheral tissues such as immune cells, etc. The mechanism of action of HRH3 involves the regulation of the synthesis and release of neurotransmitters, acting as an autoreceptor to inhibit the synthesis and secretion of histamine presynaptically, and as a heterodimeric receptor to regulate the activity of other neurotransmitters postsynaptically. Activation of HRH3 can affect a variety of physiological processes, including the sleep-wake cycle, appetite, cognitive function, and cerebral ischemia, etc.
