HSF1

HSF1, heat shock transcription factor 1, also known as HSTF1, is a transcription factor that is rapidly induced following temperature stress and is able to bind heat shock promoter elements (HSE).
This protein plays a role in regulating lifespan, and its expression is inhibited by phosphorylation, which promotes the binding of heat shock protein 90. HSF1 is a major regulator of cellular heat shock protein (HSP) expression and is highly conserved across species.
HSF1 can initiate the transcription process of genes and promote the expression of HSPs in response to stress, exerting important adaptive protective roles such as tolerating adverse stimuli, maintaining cellular integrity, attenuating inflammation and participating in immunity. HSF1 can also directly or indirectly regulate the expression of many non-heat shock genes, and has important functions in normal developmental processes or pathological events that are not dependent on heat shock or other cellular stresses.
