Interferon beta (IFN-β), encoded by the IFNB1 gene, is a cytokine belonging to the type I interferon family. Also termed Fibroblast Interferon, it binds to the heterodimeric IFN-α/β receptor (IFNAR), activating JAK-STAT signaling pathways. This triggers transcription of interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs), mediating antiviral defense, immune modulation, and antiproliferative effects. Key pathways influenced include Toll-like receptor (TLR) cascades and RIG-I-like receptor signaling, with cross-talk in autoimmune regulation. IFN-β is clinically pivotal in multiple sclerosis (MS), where it reduces relapse rates by suppressing T-cell activation and blood-brain barrier disruption. Recombinant IFN-β1a (Avonex) and IFN-β1b (Betaseron) remain first-line therapies, though newer agents like monoclonal antibodies now complement treatment regimens. Recent trials explore pegylated formulations and combination therapies with sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor modulators to enhance efficacy and tolerability.

IHC image of CSB-RA011048MA1HU diluted at 1:300 and staining in paraffin-embedded human lung cancer performed on a Leica BondTM system. After dewaxing and hydration, antigen retrieval was mediated by high pressure in a citrate buffer (pH 6.0). Section was blocked with 10% normal goat serum 30min at RT. Then primary antibody (1% BSA) was incubated at 4°C overnight. The primary is detected by a Goat anti-Human IgG labeled by HRP and visualized using 0.05% DAB.
