MBTPS1

MBTPS1, alternatively known as S1P, PCSK8, SEDKF, or SKI-1, is a human genome-derived protein belonging to the subtilisin-like protein convertase family. Made in the endoplasmic reticulum, MBTPS1 becomes active after the Golgi apparatus processes it. This protein helps cut other proteins and keeps cholesterol and lipids balanced. It also helps make cholesterol and fatty acids, boost antibody-producing cells, and activate ATF6 during cell stress. MBTPS1 is important for cell growth, change, and lipid handling. MBTPS1 mutations can cause lysosomal problems and diseases like Kondo Fu mucopolysaccharidosis and spinal metaphyseal dysplasia.
