NCAM1

NCAM1, also known as Neural Cell Adhesion Molecule 1, is a well - studied cell adhesion protein. Commonly, it's also called CD56. This protein plays a crucial role in cell - cell adhesion and neurite outgrowth. It participates in the Wnt signaling pathway, which is vital for cell development and differentiation.
Aberrant expression of NCAM1 is linked to various diseases such as neuroblastoma and small - cell lung cancer. In drug development, researchers are exploring antibodies and small molecules targeting NCAM1 to inhibit the growth and metastasis of related cancer cells, holding potential for future cancer therapies.
