NPTX1

NPTX1 encodes the neuronal pentraxin 1 protein, also known as NP1. Neuronal pentraxins are a family of proteins involved in synapse development and function. NPTX1 can bind to specific synaptic proteins and promote the clustering of AMPA receptors at synapses, thereby enhancing synaptic transmission. It is associated with the glutamatergic signaling pathway.
Abnormalities in NPTX1 have been linked to neurological disorders such as epilepsy and schizophrenia. In terms of drug development, research is exploring the potential of targeting NPTX1 to modulate synaptic function as a therapeutic strategy for these diseases, though no approved drugs have yet reached the market.
