PPP1R3B

The protein encoded by PPP1R3B is protein phosphatase 1 regulatory subunit 3B, commonly known as skeletal muscle glycogen-targeting subunit or PPP1R3B. It acts as a regulatory subunit of protein phosphatase 1 (PP1), targeting PP1 to glycogen particles and enhancing its activity toward glycogen synthase, thereby promoting glycogen synthesis in skeletal muscle.
PPP1R3B functions in the insulin signaling pathway, where insulin-mediated phosphorylation events regulate its interaction with PP1. Dysregulation of PPP1R3B is associated with metabolic disorders such as type 2 diabetes and glycogen storage diseases. Currently, no specific drugs targeting PPP1R3B are in clinical use, but its role in glycogen metabolism makes it a potential target for developing therapies for metabolic disorders.
