PTGDS

Prostaglandin D2 synthase (PTGDS), also known as lipocalin-type PGD synthase (L-PGDS) or beta-trace protein, catalyzes the conversion of prostaglandin H2 (PGH2) to prostaglandin D2 (PGD2)—a critical lipid mediator. It regulates inflammation, allergic responses, and sleep via interactions with DP1 and DP2 receptors in systemic and central nervous systems.
PTGDS is linked to asthma (PGD2-driven bronchoconstriction), allergic rhinitis, and neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer’s (modulating neuroinflammation). Drug development focuses on small-molecule inhibitors targeting PTGDS or its downstream receptors; several candidates are in preclinical or early clinical stages for inflammatory and allergic conditions.
