RTN4

Reticulon 4, known as RTN4, is a protein that is widely expressed, particularly abundant in the nervous system where it regulates neurite growth and is involved in nerve regeneration. It influences the shape of the endoplasmic reticulum and the transport of substances like calcium ions, thereby affecting cell function. RTN4 is crucial for nervous system development, neuronal survival, and cytoskeletal regulation, and it also plays a role in tumor development. Lower RTN4 expression is associated with better survival rates in patients with various cancers, including lung, breast, cervical, and renal. Moreover, RTN4 is involved in the regulation of angiogenesis and nerve repair. In glioma, RTN4 expression correlates with tumor malignancy, suggesting that modulating RTN4 could potentially control the proliferation of glioma cells by affecting the expression of cell cycle-related proteins.
