S100B

S100B, also known as S100 calcium-binding protein B, is a member of the S100 protein family. It has several common aliases such as S100-beta. This protein exerts its function by binding to calcium ions and interacting with multiple target proteins. It is involved in various signaling pathways including the MAPK and PI3K/Akt pathways.
S100B is associated with several diseases, such as neurodegenerative disorders and some types of cancers. In terms of drug development, ongoing research aims to target S100B for therapeutic intervention. Some small - molecule inhibitors are being explored to modulate its activity and potentially treat related diseases.
