SLC7A11, solute carrier family 7 member 11, cystine/glutamate transporter,also known as xCT, CCBR1. The protein encoded by SLC7A11 is a key component of the cystine/glutamate reverse transporter (SystemXc-), which is primarily responsible for transporting extracellular cystine into the cell in exchange for glutamate. This process is essential for maintaining intracellular glutathione (GSH) levels and protecting cells from oxidative stress-induced cell death.
SLC7A11 is not only associated with nutrient-dependent and oxidative stress responses in cells, but also a potential target for tumor therapy. SLC7A11 is highly expressed in a variety of tumors and is closely associated with tumor growth, prognosis, metastasis and treatment. High expression of SLC7A11 increases the sensitivity of tumor cells to oxidative stress stimuli and may promote tumor growth by inhibiting iron death.
