TGFBR1

TGFBR1, also referred to as Transforming Growth Factor Beta Receptor 1 or ALK5, is a serine/threonine kinase receptor encoded by a human gene. It serves as an essential part of the TGF-beta signaling pathway, interacting with TGF-beta ligands to initiate various signaling cascades, including the Smad pathway. This activation modulates cell behaviors such as proliferation, differentiation, migration, and apoptosis. TGFBR1 is crucial for processes like embryonic development, tissue repair, immune system regulation, and the formation of tumors. Its malfunction is associated with conditions such as fibrosis and various cancers, making it a potential target for pharmaceutical intervention and therapeutic strategies.
