TNFRSF8 is a gene providing an instruction of making a protein named tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily member 8 (usually abbreviated as TNFRSF8). The protein encoded by this gene is also called CD30 and is a cell surface glycoprotein with a molecular weight of 120kDa.
CD30 is widely distributed in activated T cells, B cells, atypical lymphocytes of infectious mononucleosis, undifferentiated large cells, etc. CD30 can participate in cell activation and differentiation, participate in the transduction of activation signals such as NF-κB, and T cell immunity During the activation process, CD30 can combine with CD153 (CD30L), limit the proliferation of autoreactive CD8 + T cells, and protect the body from autoimmunity.
Notably, only after CD30 is cross-linked with CD30L or specific monoclonal antibody can an activation signal be generated, which furthers to trigger the process of intracellular information transmission. This signal can be a positive or negative signal, which eventually leads to cell proliferation, differentiation, secretion of cytokines, and cell growth. Blocked or apoptotic, the functional diversity of CD30 depends on cell type, differentiation stage, and other co-stimulatory factors.
