CPA1, also known as carboxypeptidase A1, is a pancreatic exopeptidase. It's commonly called pancreatic carboxypeptidase A. This enzyme cleaves C - terminal aromatic or aliphatic amino acids from peptides, participating in protein digestion. It is involved in the digestive enzyme activation cascade, related to the chymotrypsin and trypsin pathways.
Mutations in CPA1 are linked to chronic pancreatitis. In drug development, the modulation of CPA1 activity is being explored as a potential approach for treating pancreatic - related diseases, aiming to regulate abnormal digestive enzyme function and reduce inflammation in the pancreas.
