DSG2

Desmoglein-2 (DSG2) is a transmembrane glycoprotein of the desmoglein family, a core component of desmosomes. It mediates intercellular adhesion by interacting with desmocollins and intracellular plaque proteins (e.g., plakoglobin), anchoring intermediate filaments to cell junctions. No widely recognized aliases exist beyond its official designation.
Dysregulation of DSG2 links to arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) via impaired cardiac cell adhesion. In lung and colorectal cancers, its overexpression activates Rho GTPase pathways, promoting metastasis. Early drug research explores monoclonal antibodies targeting DSG2 to disrupt tumor cell adhesion, though no candidates have advanced to late-phase clinical trials.
