GPR20

GPR20 is a member of the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) superfamily, officially named G protein-coupled receptor 20. It is also commonly referred to as GPR20. The receptor functions by coupling to G proteins upon ligand binding, thereby initiating intracellular signaling cascades. It is primarily involved in the regulation of glucose homeostasis and insulin secretion, with significant implications in metabolic pathways.
Aberrant expression or dysfunction of GPR20 has been linked to type 2 diabetes mellitus, where its dysregulation may impair pancreatic beta-cell function. Current drug development efforts focus on targeting GPR20 as a potential therapeutic target for metabolic disorders, with preclinical studies exploring small molecule agonists and antagonists to modulate its activity.
