MOV10

MOV10 encodes the Moloney leukemia virus 10 homolog protein, also known as HELIC1 or KIAA0068—a DEAD-box RNA helicase with ATP-dependent unwinding activity. It participates in post-transcriptional gene regulation, including mRNA decay and microRNA-mediated silencing, and interacts with the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), linking it to the RNA interference pathway. It also suppresses viral RNA replication, such as HIV-1, by binding viral transcripts.
Dysregulation of MOV10 is associated with neurodevelopmental disorders and cancers like breast cancer, where its expression correlates with tumor progression. While no clinical drugs target MOV10 yet, its antiviral function makes it a preclinical candidate for retroviral therapies. Ongoing studies explore its potential as an oncology biomarker or therapeutic target.
