MRC1

Mannose receptor 1 (MCR1), also known as CD206, is a transmembrane protein with a relative molecular mass of 166 kDa. It is a marker of M2 macrophages with high specificity. MCR1 is mainly distributed on the surface of most macrophages and immature dendritic cells, and acts as a pattern recognition receptor to recognize glycoproteins and glycolipids on the surface of pathogens, so it plays a role in antigen recognition and antigen presentation. In addition, MCR1 also plays a role in the clearance of sulfated glycoprotein hormones and glycoproteins produced under pathological conditions in the systemic circulation. A soluble form of MCR1 is found in the periphery after proteolytic cleavage of the macrophage membrane. The soluble form of MCR1, similar to the membrane form, also recognizes sulfated and mannosylated carbohydrates and can alter innate and adaptive immune responses.
Research shows that tumor-associated macrophages participate in the tumor microenvironment and can promote the formation and metastasis of various tumors. M2-type tumor-associated macrophages are the majority, which are found in breast cancer, ovarian cancer, pancreatic cancer and prostate cancer. Traces of it can be found. As a marker of M2 macrophages, MCR1 is highly specific and can be used as a potential marker for the diagnosis of malignant tumors.
