MSTN

MSTN, also known as myostatin, is a secretory protein that plays a crucial regulatory role in the musculoskeletal system of mammals and belongs to the TGF-β superfamily. Its structure includes an N-terminal secretory signal peptide and a cysteine structure. By binding to its receptor, MSTN inhibits the growth, differentiation, and proliferation of muscle cells, thereby regulating muscle development. In the process of signal transduction, MSTN forms a complex with intracellular receptors, activating Smads proteins, phosphorylating them, and entering the nucleus to regulate the expression of target genes. Additionally, MSTN is involved in the transduction of signaling pathways such as MAPK and p38, which affect the proliferative cycle of muscle cells. The complex structure and functions of MSTN endow it with broad application prospects in biology and medicine, especially in the regulation of muscle growth, disease treatment, and the development of myotonic agents.
