PROM1 Research Reagents

PROM1 (Prominin-1), also known as CD133, is a transmembrane glycoprotein that is widely expressed in many cell types, including hematopoietic stem cells, neural stem cells, and epithelial cells of various tissues. In cancer, PROM1 has been identified as a cancer stem cell marker and has been associated with tumor initiation, progression, and chemotherapy resistance. Several studies have suggested that targeting PROM1 expression or function can be a potential therapeutic strategy for cancer. For example, a study targeting glioblastoma found that inhibiting PROM1 could reduce the growth and invasion of glioblastoma cells, leading to tumor regression and prolonged survival (Safa et al., 2015). Another study showed that in colorectal cancer, targeting PROM1 could enhance the sensitivity of cancer cells to chemotherapy (Ji et al., 2016). Therefore, PROM1 is a potential therapeutic target that may offer new directions for cancer treatment. Further research on PROM1's biological functions and molecular mechanisms may help reveal its role in cancer development and provide theoretical basis for developing new drugs for cancer treatment.
