SLC39A6

SLC39A6 (Solute Carrier Family 39 Member 6) is a transmembrane protein that transports divalent cations, such as zinc, iron, and manganese, from extracellular fluids into the cells. It is widely expressed in human tissues, particularly in the brain. SLC39A6 is involved in various physiological and pathological processes, including neurodevelopment, immune regulation, apoptosis, and metabolism regulation. Recent studies have shown that SLC39A6 is dysregulated in certain types of cancer, such as breast cancer, colon cancer, gastric cancer, and prostate cancer. Overexpression of SLC39A6 is believed to be associated with the development and progression of certain cancers, such as by promoting cancer cell proliferation and metastasis.
