TNFSF4, also known as TXGP1; Glycoprotein Gp34, OX40 ligand, OX40L, TAX transcriptionally-activated glycoprotein 1, or CD antigen CD252, is a membrane-bound protein primarily produced by activated T cells. It is a member of the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) superfamily, encoded by a gene in human cells. The mechanism of action for TNFSF4 primarily involves binding to its receptor OX40 (TNFRSF4, CD134), playing a key role in T cell activation, proliferation, and survival. The interaction between TNFSF4 and OX40 promotes secondary signaling in T cells, enhancing their effector functions and contributing to the regulation of immune responses and the formation of immunological memory.
The TNFSF4-OX40 signaling pathway is crucial for the expansion, differentiation, and survival of both CD4+ and CD8+ T cells, particularly in T cell-dependent immune responses.
