TRIM72

TRIM72, also known as Mitofusin 53, is a multifunctional protein with a key role in membrane repair and cellular stress responses. It possesses a RING-finger domain, which is critical for its E3 ubiquitin ligase activity. TRIM72 functions in the repair of damaged cell membranes, particularly in skeletal muscle and myocardium, by recruiting vesicles to the injury site and facilitating membrane fusion. This protein is involved in various signaling pathways, including PI3K/Akt and NF-κB, and is associated with diseases such as Duchenne muscular dystrophy and myocardial infarction. Research on TRIM72 has led to potential therapeutic applications, including gene therapy for muscular dystrophies and its exploration as a target for cancer treatment.
