ALPP

ALPP (alkaline phosphatase protein) is an enzyme that possesses the ability to hydrolyze various phosphate compounds. Structurally, it features a full-length sequence of 484 amino acids and a molecular weight of approximately 62.5 kDa. As an enzyme, ALPP may participate in the regulation of signaling pathways by catalyzing the hydrolysis of organophosphates or the removal of inorganic pyrophosphate (PPI), which serves as an inhibitor of biomineralization. ALPP plays a crucial role in multiple vital biological processes. Research indicates that it is involved in the regulation of cellular events such as protein phosphorylation, cell growth, apoptosis, and migration during embryonic development. The expression profile of the alkaline phosphatase gene is modulated by various signals, leading to differential expression patterns under different conditions. Furthermore, abnormal expression of ALPP is associated with multiple human cancers. For instance, altered expression patterns of ALP isoenzymes in malignant tumor tissues and changes in plasma ALP levels can indicate the presence of certain cancers, such as osteosarcoma, Paget's disease, and osteoblastic bone metastases. Additionally, the expression of ALPP and ALPPL2 is highly restricted in normal tissues but elevated in certain cancer types, including ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer, germ cell cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, and gastric cancer.
