IL36G

Interleukin-36 gamma (IL36G), alternatively named IL-1F9, is a pro-inflammatory cytokine from the IL-1 superfamily. It signals via binding to the IL-36 receptor (IL36R) and co-receptor IL-1RAcP, triggering NF-κB and MAPK pathways to induce pro-inflammatory cytokine production and immune cell infiltration at inflamed sites.
IL36G is implicated in autoimmune and inflammatory diseases like pustular psoriasis, inflammatory bowel disease, and rheumatoid arthritis. Therapeutic targeting of the IL36 axis has advanced: spesolimab, an anti-IL36R monoclonal antibody, is approved for generalized pustular psoriasis, underscoring IL36G’s role in disease progression.
