LGALS3

LGALS3, or galectin 3, is a protein with extensive tissue and cellular distribution, highly active in immune cells, where it modulates immune responses. It functions by binding to cell surface sugars to regulate cell adhesion, proliferation, migration, and apoptosis, and it influences tumorigenesis, inflammation, and immune system balance. Found in various cellular compartments and with β-galactosidase affinity, LGALS3 also has antimicrobial properties. Its dysregulation is associated with diseases such as cancer, inflammatory conditions, fibrosis, heart disease, and stroke.
