LOX, or lysylloxidase，is a secreted copper-dependent amine oxidase encoded by the human LOX gene, which belongs to the family of lysyl oxidases and is essential for the formation of connective tissues.The mechanism of action of LOX lies in the catalysis of the formation of covalent bonds in collagen and elastin, a process that requires the involvement of copper ions, which cause the oxidation of specific amino acid residues on collagen and elastin to form covalent bonds.
