GCGR

The Gcgr gene encodes the Glucagon receptor, also commonly known as GCGR. This receptor belongs to the G - protein - coupled receptor family. It plays a crucial role in glucose homeostasis by binding to glucagon, which activates adenylate cyclase through G - proteins, leading to increased cAMP levels and subsequent activation of protein kinase A. This pathway is involved in glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis.
Dysregulation of the Gcgr - related signaling pathway is associated with type 2 diabetes. In drug development, agents targeting the glucagon receptor are being investigated. These drugs aim to modulate glucagon action, thereby helping to better control blood glucose levels in diabetic patients.
