MMP9, matrix metalloproteinase 9, is an enzyme expressed in a variety of cell types, including neutrophils, monocytes, macrophages, etc. MMP9 is derived from a gene encoded by human cells themselves, and its mechanism of action involves catalyzing the degradation of extracellular matrix (ECM) components such as collagen, elastin, and gelatin, which are essential for maintaining the dynamic homeostasis of tissue structure and function. Its mechanism of action involves catalyzing the degradation of extracellular matrix (ECM) components, such as collagen, elastin, gelatin, etc., which are essential for maintaining the dynamic balance of tissue structure and function. The activity of MMP9 is affected by a variety of regulatory mechanisms, including zymogen activation, and inhibition by inhibitory factors, such as tissue inhibitory factors of metalloproteinases (TIMPs).
MMP9 has a wide range of biological significance, and is involved in a variety of physiological and pathological processes including tissue repair, inflammation, tumor progression and metastasis, among others. MMP9 is involved in the regulation of cell proliferation, migration and apoptosis by degrading ECM and non-ECM substrates, such as cytokines and growth factors. In disease states, abnormal expression or activity of MMP9 is associated with cardiovascular disease, fibrotic disease, tumor invasion and metastasis. For example, in cardiac remodeling after myocardial infarction, increased MMP9 activity is associated with cardiac dysfunction .MMP9 activity is also associated with angiogenesis and immune escape in the tumor microenvironment, making it a potential target for cancer therapy .
