VEGFC

VEGFC, also known as Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor C, is a crucial protein involved in the regulation of lymphangiogenesis and angiogenesis. It has several common aliases, including VEGF-3 and VPF-C. VEGFC acts by binding to its receptors VEGFR-2 and VEGFR-3, initiating a signaling cascade that promotes cell survival, proliferation, and migration of endothelial cells.
This protein is associated with various diseases such as lymphedema and certain types of cancer, where its overexpression can lead to abnormal lymphatic vessel formation and tumor growth. In drug development, agents targeting the VEGFC/VEGFR pathway are being actively investigated, with some showing promise in preclinical and early - stage clinical trials to inhibit tumor angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis.
