CLDN18, or tight junction protein 18, Claudin-18.CLDN18 is encoded by the human CLDN18 gene, which is located on chromosome 3 in the 3q28 region.
CLDN18 is a tight junction protein that is mainly involved in forming intercellular tight junctions, regulating cellular bypass permeability and maintaining the integrity of the epithelial cell layer.
Its mechanism of action involves interaction with other tight junction proteins in the cell membrane to form stable tight junction structures that control the flow of molecules and ions between cells.
CLDN18 is highly expressed in alveolar epithelial cells and gastric epithelial cells and is essential for lung and gastric development and function. Aberrant expression of CLDN18 is associated with a variety of diseases, including lung and gastric cancers. Especially in lung cancer, CLDN18 expression is associated with tumor aggressiveness and poor prognosis, and is a potential diagnostic marker and therapeutic target.
