Description

The D antibody is meticulously created through rabbit immunization with recombinant Escherichia phage lambda capsid decoration protein (D) (1-56aa), leading to the production of specific IgG antibodies by the rabbit's B lymphocytes. Afterward, the polyclonal D antibody is rigorously purified from the rabbit's serum using protein G methods. It is a reliable tool for the detection of Escherichia phage lambda capsid decoration protein (gpD) protein in ELISA and WB experiments.

The essential phage λ decoration protein gpD mainly binds to expand its capsids during the last stages of DNA packaging, to stabilize them while the last 10–20% of the genome necessary for maturation is incorporated. Although not required for DNA packaging per se, gpD decoration is essential to ensure the packaging of the entire genome length.

Target Background

Function

Stabilizes the expansion of the capsid head shell after genome packaging. The packaging of viral genome in the procapsid triggers a dramatic reconfiguration of the capsid shell, expanding from roughly 50nm to 60nm while the capsid thickness decreases. 415 capsid decoration protein molecules cooperatively bind the expanded capsid, thereby stabilizing the mature capsid shell.
