Target Background

Function
Required for normal morphogenesis of adult structures derived from imaginal disks. Plays a role in planar cell polarity and in determining body left-right asymmetry. Expression in segment H1 of the imaginal ring and interaction with Myo31DF are required to induce changes of cell shape and orientation in segment H2, which then gives rise to normal, dextral looping of the adult hindgut.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Dlish (CG10933) tethers Dachs to the subapical cell cortex, an effect partly mediated by the palmitoyltransferase Approximated under the control of Fat. Conversely, Dlish promotes the Fat-mediated degradation of Dachs PMID: 27692068
  2. Ds imbalance within the migrating tissue provides the directional cue. PMID: 28898677
  3. Cell Death Changes the Orientation of Cell Division in the Developing Drosophila Wing Imaginal Disc Without Using Fat or Dachsous as Orienting Signals PMID: 28030539
  4. novel isoforms of dachsous genes expressed during development in Drosophila PMID: 26497083
  5. propose a mechanism by which the left-right asymmetry (LR) determinant Myosin ID (MyoID) transfers LR information to neighboring cells through the planar cell polarity atypical cadherin Dachsous PMID: 26073018
  6. Fbxl7 binds to the Ft protein and regulates Dachs localization and Hippo signaling. PMID: 25107277
  7. The gradient of Fj expression, phosphorylation of Ft by Fj and sub-cellular distal accumulation of Ds are three critical elements required for generating sub-cellular asymmetry of Ft-Ds heterodimer. PMID: 24841507
  8. Data proposes that Ft recruits FbxL7 to the proximal side of the cell to help restrict Ds and Dachs to the distal side of the cell. PMID: 25256343
  9. two modes of local/cooperative interactions among Fat-Dachsous complexes, which are necessary for the collective polarization of tissues and enhanced sensitivity to weak gradients. PMID: 24282293
  10. The requirement for Ds and Fat in establishing polarity across the denticle field, is reported. PMID: 24051227
  11. Ft and Ds interact to modulate a secondary signal that regulates long-range polarity. PMID: 23946440
  12. The Fat ligand Dachsous (Ds) is partially polarized along the endogenous Ds gradients, providing a mechanism for propagation of planar cell polaritiy within the Fat pathway. Relative levels of Ds isoforms are modulated by Fat. PMID: 22727698
  13. study shows how the Fat/Dachsous/Four-jointed planar cell polarity pathway controls morphogenesis; Dachsous is polarized within a domain of its tissue-wide expression gradient; it polarizes the myosin Dachs, which in turn promotes anisotropy of junction tension PMID: 22499807
  14. Complementary expression of Ds and Fj results in biased Ft and Ds protein distribution across cells, with Ft and Ds accumulating on opposite edges. Asymmetries in protein distribution are transmitted to neighboring cells. PMID: 22503504
  15. analysis of planar cell polarity and Hippo pathway activities of the protocadherins Fat and Dachsous PMID: 22399682
  16. Data show that ds and fz contribute independently to planar polarity in the Drosophila ventral epidermis and that they do so over spatially distinct domains. PMID: 21613320
  17. The goal of this study was to investigate the role of the Ft/Ds pathway in the context of Fz planar cell polarity signaling model. PMID: 21379328
  18. Dachs constricts cell-cell junctions to alter the geometry of cell shapes at the apical surface, and that cell shape then determines the orientation of the mitotic spindle PMID: 21245166
  19. The orientation of the individual denticle rows, in both the anterior compartment (which mostly point backwards) and the posterior compartment (which point forwards), is determined by the opposing slopes of a Dachsous/Fat gradient. PMID: 20826534
  20. role in growth and planar polarity and affinity for fat modulated by four-jointed phosphorylation PMID: 20434337
  21. Dachsous plays a role in the polarity and orientation of ommatidia in the Drosophila eye, and shows graded expression across the eye. PMID: 11893338
  22. effect on differential activity of Frizzled in R3/R4 photoreceptors PMID: 12062069
  23. role of two cadherins, Fat (Ft) and Dachsous (Ds), in conveying the polarizing signal from the D/V midline in the Drosophila eye PMID: 12123577
  24. dachsous, a member of the cadherin family, is required for Wg-dependent pattern formation in the Drosophila wing disc PMID: 15175250
  25. Results support the existence of Fat-Dachsous binding and show that it is sufficient to alter planar cell polarity, but also that dachsous expression is permissive or redundant with other polarity cues in much of the wing. PMID: 15240556
  26. role in signaling interactions that regulate growth and patterning of the proximal wing PMID: 15342474
  27. The gradient of Ds and Ds expression provide partially redundant positional information essential for specifying the polarization axis. PMID: 15548581
  28. Results suggest that Dachsous (Ds) can regulate growth independently of Fat (Ft), and that the intracellular domain of Ds can affect proximodistal patterning, both suggestive of functions independent of binding Ft. PMID: 16687445
  29. The Dachsous/Fat system operates independently of Starry night/Frizzled to confer planar cell polarity. PMID: 17075008
  30. results indicate that Four-jointed regulates Fat signaling by phosphorylating cadherin domains of Fat and Dachsous as they transit through the Golgi PMID: 18635802
  31. Ds and Fj regulate Hippo signaling to control growth. PMID: 18809931
  32. Results suggest that Dachsous regulates discs overgrown-dependent phosphorylation of Fat and Fat-associated proteins to control Fat signaling in growth and planar cell polarity. PMID: 19540118
