Target Background

Function
Acts as an inhibitor of bacterial RNA polymerase by interacting with RpoC subunit and thus preventing promoter recognition by RpoE. Non-DNA-binding transcription factor that plays a role in the transcriptional switch that abolishes transcription of the viral early genes (class I) by the host RNA polymerase but allows transcription of late genes (class II and class III) by T7 RNA polymerase.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Overexpression of recombinant inhibitor of host bacterial RNA polymerase (Gp2) in exponentially growing E. coli induces changes in RNAP behavior at single molecule level and induces global alterations in the transcriptional programme. PMID: 28977482
  2. gp15 and gp16 can refold from a partially denatured state in vitro, and that gp15 interacts with gp16 to form a spiral ring structure. PMID: 26476287
  3. E24K and F27Y mutations of Gp2 facilitate the interaction between Gp2beta and Escherichia coli RNA polymerase. PMID: 22977089
  4. Gp2 inhibits RPo formation not just by steric occlusion of the RNA polymerase (RNAp)-DNA interaction but also through long-range antagonistic effects on RNAp-promoter interactions around the RNAp active center that likely occur due to repositioning of the amino-terminal sigma(70) domain region 1.1 (R1.1) by Gp2. PMID: 22819324
  5. comprehensive mutagenesis data reveal that two conserved arginine residues located on the opposite side of Gp2 are important for binding to and inhibition of RNAP PMID: 20133868
